Spending Money on Time-Saving Services Will Make You Happier - According to New study

Money Can't buy happiness, right? But money can buy you free time, and a new study suggests that's just about the same thing.

Research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, found that people who spent money on time-saving investments - like hiring a cleaner (we know a guy), a gardener, or paying extra for groceries to be delivered rather than spending time at the store - reported greater overall life satisfaction.

The University of British Columbia surveyed more than 6,000 adults to better understand how money, time, and happiness relate to each other. The participants answered a range of questions, about how often they spend money to buy themselves free time, how often they felt stressed about time, their demographics, and their overall life satisfaction.

Even after the researchers controlled for income level, the results were apparent: People who spent money on time-saving purchases reported higher levels of satisfaction with their lives. What was even more surprising, is the effects were found to be the same across the income spectrum, meaning the effect wasn't restricted to only those with high disposable incomes.
